Explanation:
Perhaps the most difficult thing to come to terms with is the scale of death. Influenza, for example, is an affliction which you no doubt have come across. However, you have never encountered anything like Elizabethan flu. It arrives in December 1557 and lasts for eighteen months. In the ten-month period August 1558 to May 1559 the annual death rate almost trebles to 7.2 percent (normally it is 2.5 percent). More than 150,000 people die from it—5 percent of the population. This is proportionally much worse than the great influenza pandemic of 1918–19 (0.53 percent mortality). Another familiar disease is malaria, which Elizabethans refer to as ague or fever. You might associate this with more tropical countries of the modern world but in marshy areas in sixteenth-century England, such as the Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire Fens, the Norfolk Broads, and Romney Marsh in Kent, it kills thousands.

Answer:
Explanation:
Being an American is awesome. I feel that I am part of the best country in the whole wide world and feel that we all are blessed with so much freedom in our everyday lives. Many people in the United States are used to hearing themselves as an “American”, but they do not associate it with privilege anymore. Everyone uses the word so often, but they barely know what it means. Many people hate the fact that they live in this country, and they never take the time to realize how blessed they are to live in America. These people are blind to the fact that many others around the world would give anything to be in their shoes, ready for the opportunity to succeed and start a new life.
People in the United States take the freedom this country has to offer for granted. They don’t realize what kinds of freedoms they really have and how unique they are compared to the rest of the world. The word that clearly describes “American” is “Free”. It does not mean that an American can obtain free food, a free car or a free home. Instead it means that a person living in the United States is free to make their own decisions, such as choosing who will run the country. In the United States of America, the people have freedom of speech, religion, the right to vote, the right to keep and bear arms, and ability to travel where and when they want. Here in this country we can decide how to live our lives, without the government breathing down our necks telling us what to do. We can speak our minds about a certain injustice or write about controversial things that many people deem unconstitutional or politically incorrect. In the United States, we have an opportunity to serve our country. We have the chance to give back something to a country that has given us so much. We aren’t forced into the military service, but rather we have a choice whether or not we want to serve. Here in the United States, we are truly blessed with so much. I believe being an American means that we are all part of something truly special and we as Americans carry a certain sense of pride in our country. Freedom of speech and the freedom of religion are prohibited in many countries around the globe but Americans have fought to obtain these rights. America was formed on the idea that religion and speech should not be controlled by the government. Being able to speak out about an injustice is very important for the overall health of a nation. People will always continue to be people. They will lie and cheat to get more and more power. In the United States, we are able to see that and write or speak about it without fear of any retaliation. We have a right to say our minds, a right to say whats on our heart. If someone is the government is doing something that is unconstitutional or illegal, we can say or write whatever we want about it without the fear of being punished.
When the North American colonies were formed in the early seventeenth centuries, people from Europe braved the high seas of the Atlantic Ocean and made their way to the New World where they could practice whatever religion they wanted to. Although The Pledge of Allegiance states that we are “one nation under God” people have the right to choose what religion they wish to practice. Yet, if they choose not to take part in any religion and not to serve any God, they are free to choose and practice what they believe. People are not and will not be prosecuted for their beliefs. Nobody is marginalized because their opinion in religion might be different than others. This is a founding principle of our nation.
In this country we have a right to keep and bear arms, made possible by the second amendment. The second amendment to the constitution, passed in 1791 along with the rest of the bill of rights, made it so the people of this country could “have the right to keep and bear arms”. It is nice to live in a country that permits us to bear arms for ourselves.
get your popcorn cause honey, it's about to be a minute
1-3 America is still a work in progress. And today, has proved that. We are supposed to be the land of the free, opportunity, advancement, but here we are today, still fighting to go to school, to get better jobs, healthcare, and to be looked at, as the rest of you "privileged" people who were born in the world with the world in your hands. Like, black and brown people aren't born with the OPPORTUNITY to change the world. White people are. They can do whatever they want. They get payed more, and don't get beat on the street. Oh, and straight rights? What rights? We say gay rights not to separate us, but so you can ACKNOWLEDGE us, because you haven't. All lives matter? The people who say that are trying to say "oh well you aren't the only one who is important" like, that's not what we're trying to say at all, and the fact that you still don't understand that proves we're getting no where. Americans are not learning from their mistakes. Americans are not white. It's not like how China is full of Asians, America is not full of white people, it's full of diverse, passionate people. Like people act like by saying "gay rights and black lives matter", then that's us trying to separate us, but that's not at all what we are doing. We are telling you that we are here.
And why is it that America is apparently so great, when our history is that they stole my people's land? I don't celebrate thanksgiving because it's basically a celebration of how they slaughtered and raped my people. Instead, I do festiveus, which is just to celebrate and appreciate each other.
Also, aren't we supposed to be setting an example? Like people have the right to flee to our country and seek protection, but thanks to trump, ICE separates children from their families at the border even right now as we speak. And on top of that, THE ENTIRE WORLD IS WATCHING US. What are they learning from us? What do they see? Violence, destruction, and hate, and greed. America isn't the land of the free! It's the land of greed.
4-7 The US is different, but not special, because we have what a lot of countries have, which is injustice, poverty, inequality, racism, sexism, and more. But yes, we do have more advancement, but how does that matter if we're killing each other every day?
I think every country has patriotism, not just Americans, but to what extent must we stop? We wouldn't riot if you listened. Like America really thinks we're doing this out of nowhere for no reason.
I don't think there is a right answer for being American. Because they're all different, and THAT is what makes America. That we're all so different! :D
8. America is a country made up of people that have immigrated from all over the world. So yes! Most of America are immigrants! Yet white people are "the face of America" really? Most of these white people's parents immigrated to America. Like, I think trump/s parent's or something were immigrants. You are American if you contribute to America and you aren't sum bum who doesn't want to work and just want to cause trouble.
Also, why is it so bad to see other people love people of the same gender. Like honey come on. That's getting a little too old now. Just let the gay people be gay by themselves okay, they aren't hurting anyone >:(
written with love~
Determine the rhyme scheme of the following poem.
XII (From Fairie Queene, Book I, Canto 11)
But stings and sharpest steele did far exceed
The sharpnesse of his cruell rending clawes;
Dead was it sure, as sure as death in deed,
What ever thing does touch his ravenous pawes,
Or what within his reach he ever drawes.
But his most hideous head my toung to tell
Does tremble: for his deepe devouring jawes
Wide gaped, like the griesly mouth of hell,
Through which into his darke abisse all ravin fell.

The door opened and Jim stepped in and closed it. He looked thin and very serious. Poor fellow, he was only twenty-two and to be burdened with a family! He needed a new overcoat and he was without gloves. —"The Gift of the Magi," O. Henry Use the drop-down menus to identify the examples of characterization as direct or indirect. “He looked thin and very serious.” “He was only twenty-two.” “He needed a new overcoat and he was without gloves.”
Answer:
direct , direct, indirect
Explanation:
“He looked thin and very serious.” is a direct characterization, “He was only twenty-two.” is also direct characterization. While “He needed a new overcoat and he was without gloves.” is indirect characterization.
What is characterization?Characterization is the process by which an author or actor describes or depicts what a character is like.
Characterization refers to the techniques a writer employs to reveal to readers a character's values, feelings, goals, and so on. When revealing a character's traits, a writer can use either direct or indirect characterization.
Direct characterization, also known as explicit characterization, describes the character through their physical appearance, line of work, or interests and hobbies. Characters are described indirectly through their thoughts, actions, speech, and dialogue.
"He looked thin and solemn." is a direct characterization; "He was only twenty-two." is another direct characterization. "He needed a new overcoat and he was without gloves," on the other hand, is an indirect characterization.
Thus, the given two statements are direct and last one is indirect characterization.

Do you think being successful influences your identity or do you think your identity influences your success
Answer:
I think being successful influences your identity.
Explanation:
Well a lot of times, some people might change a little upon being more successful. For some that could include a good change and for others, a bad change.
Answer:
I believe it could go both ways but I feel like your identity influences your success more.
Explanation:
Think of an influencer or celeb for example, people have to like you, for you to be successful. So if people don't like you, can't relate to you, or whatever else it is there is a less chance that you will be successful.
But when you do become successful, that life and style could change your identity for sure. So technically both are correct and they are both true, but for me I think your identity influences your success a lot!

(1) Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth upon this continent a new nation: conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war ... testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated ... can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war.
(2) We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that this nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate ... we cannot consecrate ... we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.
What does President Lincoln imply by the line in bold? (5 points)
The people who started the civil war are not patriotic.
A nation founded on worthy principles may struggle to survive.
Those in support of battle are not thinking of the families.
It is in the Constitution that this is a just cause for the nation.

"I have heard now and again of such a thing, but never in our pack or in my time," said Father Wolf. "He is altogether without hair, and I could kill him with a touch of my foot. But see, he looks up and is not afraid."

Summary:
The clock ticked on, repeating and repeating its sounds into the emptiness. And the rain tapped on the empty house, echoing. At eight-thirty the eggs were shrivelled and the toast was like stone. The five spots of paint - the man, the woman, the children, the ball- remained. It sniffed the air and scratched the kitchen door. Behind the door, the stove was making pancakes which filled the house with a rich baked odour and the scent of maple syrup. In the cellar, the incinerator glowed suddenly and a whirl ofsparks leaped up the chimney. The dinner dishes manipulated like magic tricks, and in the study a click. Dawn showed faintly in the east. Among the ruins, one wallstood alone. Within the wall, a last voice said, over and over again and again, even as the sun rose to shine upon the heaped rubble and steam: "Today is August 5, 2026, today is August 5, 2026, today is..."
