With a control chart, the failure rate is described in a line chart that will move over time. The easiest way to find out if there is an uncontrolled variation is to observe whether there are values that are outside the UCL & LCL control limits. In addition, graphical tendencies towards abnormal variations which, although still within control limits, can be observed, so that problems can be anticipated earlier.
