Answer:
When online learning becomes more common and more and more resources are converted to digital form, some people have suggested that public libraries should be shut down and, in their place, everyone should be given an iPad with an e-reader subscription.
Proponents of this idea state that it will save local cities and towns money because libraries are expensive to maintain. They also believe it will encourage more people to read because they won’t have to travel to a library to get a book; they can simply click on what they want to read and read it from wherever they are. They could also access more materials because libraries won’t have to buy physical copies of books; they can simply rent out as many digital copies as they need.
However, it would be a serious mistake to replace libraries with tablets. First, digital books and resources are associated with less learning and more problems than print resources. A study done on tablet vs book reading found that people read 20-30% slower on tablets, retain 20% less information, and understand 10% less of what they read compared to people who read the same information in print. Additionally, staring too long at a screen has been shown to cause numerous health problems, including blurred vision, dizziness, dry eyes, headaches, and eye strain, at much higher instances than reading print does. People who use tablets and mobile devices excessively also have a higher incidence of more serious health issues such as fibromyalgia, shoulder and back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and muscle strain. I know that whenever I read from my e-reader for too long, my eyes begin to feel tired and my neck hurts. We should not add to these problems by giving people, especially young people, more reasons to look at screens.
Second, it is incredibly narrow-minded to assume that the only service libraries offer is book lending. Libraries have a multitude of benefits, and many are only available if the library has a physical location. Some of these benefits include acting as a quiet study space, giving people a way to converse with their neighbors, holding classes on a variety of topics, providing jobs, answering patron questions, and keeping the community connected. One neighborhood found that, after a local library instituted community events such as play times for toddlers and parents, job fairs for teenagers, and meeting spaces for senior citizens, over a third of residents reported feeling more connected to their community. Similarly, a Pew survey conducted in 2015 found that nearly two-thirds of American adults feel that closing their local library would have a major impact on their community. People see libraries as a way to connect with others and get their questions answered, benefits tablets can’t offer nearly as well or as easily.
While replacing libraries with tablets may seem like a simple solution, it would encourage people to spend even more time looking at digital screens, despite the myriad issues surrounding them. It would also end access to many of the benefits of libraries that people have come to rely on. In many areas, libraries are such an important part of the community network that they could never be replaced by a simple object.

The sentence which lists the correct order of the steps used to analyze how diction creates mood in a text is:
A. analyze the author's word choice, determine the connotations of words, identify the mood of the text.
Diction is directly related to word choice. It refers to the style of an author's writing, and it helps create a certain mood.To analyze diction, first we must identify which words in a piece of writing seem stronger than the others. Then, we analyze those words' connotation, that is, the meaning they convey. Finally, we can come to a conclusion about the mood of the text. For example, in "Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson, the author uses words such as "violent", "war", "deadlier", and "crossfire" to discuss the use of pesticides. Those words carry strong connotations related to death and aggression. With that, the author creates a serious, pessimistic mood. Her intention is to evoke uneasiness in her audience when it comes to the use of pesticides and its effects in nature.Learn more about the topic here:

3. How do ocean temperatures affect climate?
Explanation:
The ocean covers about 70% of Earth’s surface. So, it’s not surprising that it plays a large part in Earth’s environment. As Earth warms, water in the ocean soaks up energy (heat) and distributes it more evenly across the planet. The ocean also absorbs carbon dioxide from Earth’s atmosphere. The additional heat and carbon dioxide in the ocean can change the environment for the many plants and animals that live there. Earth’s climate is warming due to human activities. As Earth experiences a warming climate, we experience hotter air temperatures. The ocean does an excellent job of absorbing the extra heat from the atmosphere, delaying the full impact of global warming. The top few meters of the ocean store as much heat as Earth's entire atmosphere. So, as the planet warms, it's the ocean that gets most of the extra energy. More than 90% of the global warming is going into the ocean. But if the ocean gets too warm, then the plants and animals that live there can get sick or even die.

Read the excerpt from "Ellis Island.”
"We lived there for three days—Mother and we five children, the youngest of whom was three years old,” recalled Angelo Pellegrini, whose family moved from Italy when he was 10. "Because of the rigorous physical examination that we had to submit to, particularly of the eyes, there was this terrible anxiety that one of us might be rejected. And if one of us was, what would the rest of the family do?”
Along with everyone else, Angelo’s family was examined for contagious diseases, such as chicken pox, measles, mumps, scarlet fever, and tuberculosis. If an illness could be treated, the sick were hospitalized on the island. About 2 percent were sent back to where they came from.

Spring
BY EDNA ST. VINCENT MILLAY
To what purpose, April, do you return again?
Beauty is not enough.
You can no longer quiet me with the redness
Of little leaves opening stickily.
I know what I know.
The sun is hot on my neck as I observe
The spikes of the crocus.
The smell of the earth is good.
It is apparent that there is no death.
But what does that signify?
Not only under ground are the brains of men
Eaten by maggots.
Life in itself
Is nothing,
An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs.
It is not enough that yearly, down this hill,
April
Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.
Spring by Edna St. Vincent Millay is a poem about April spring, its a comedic take on her own experience with spring. Edna writes in this poem about how behind the beauty of the world, there is disgustingness; but making art out of the bad of the world, generates new beauty.

why do you think colonists themselves British subjects rather than Americans
Answer:
For two reasons, early American colonists did not consider themselves "Americans": most were British citizens, and the term of "Americans" did not exist at the time. Even though the phrase became widely used (it was coined by British officials as a method to distinguish themselves), it wasn't considered a badge of honor until the Revolutionary War...and the consequent emergence of a new country independent of its overlords on the other side of the Atlantic.
