It was thrilling just to see a plant, a spot of green in the ghetto desert.
She plucked it from my shirt. She held it by the seed up to the light. She dusted her nose with it and giggled. She brushed the fluff across her cheek, closing her eyes. She stood on tiptoes and held it as high as she could and let it go. It sailed toward the sky.
“That’s my angel,” she said.

An example of an introductory sentence is, "For holidays, my family sets up the decorations, cooks a meal, and invites all of the relatives over."

Read the following passage from the Bible: Daniel 1:8-16 (ESV).
"But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king's food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself. And God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs, and the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who assigned your food and your drink; for why should he see that you were in worse condition than the youths who are of your own age? So you would endanger my head with the king.” Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had assigned over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, “Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king's food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see.” So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days. At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king's food. So the steward took away their food and the wine they were to drink, and gave them vegetables."

What is a direct characterization?
Direct characterization is when an author describes a character in a straightforward manner, as if telling he is the reader directly. It is also known as “explicit characterization,” direct characterization involves specific details about a character’s appearance, motivation, job, passions, and/or background, but inhibits the reader from drawing their own conclusions about the character.
It is a powerful weapon in any writer’s arsenal, direct characterization can enhance any story, but can also hinder it if not handled properly.Direct characterization is a type of literary device used to tell conclusive details about a character to the reader with little or no ambiguity. The idea is that the author is stating a definitive fact about the character, as opposed to more subtle descriptions that leave some things up to the reader’s imagination.

After the 9/11 tragedy, the US government became extremely wary with respect to any suspected terrorist activities. Multiple measures were and continue to be taken to protect citizens from the threat of terrorism. Though the measures taken by the government were effective, they also resulted in the violation of several constitutional rights of many US citizens. Let’s look at some examples.
Increased surveillance: In order to control terrorist activities, the US government increased surveillance in various public places, such as airports, courthouses, and malls. This surveillance was effective against tracking illegal activities, but was also ignoring citizens privacy. Security checks at many public places were made mandatory as a precautionary measure. The searches of citizens’ persons and property were thorough and detailed, and practically violated the Fourth Amendment, which states that a search cannot be carried out in the absence of probable cause.
Racial profiling: Although security checks were for all citizens, certain sections were examined more closely and regarded with general suspicion in post-9/11 security measures. For instance, people of Arabic descent were more thoroughly searched, interrogated, and sometimes detained at airports, only on the basis of their ethnicity. Race and religion were the only reasons for such strict investigations. Such bias directly violated the First Amendment rights, which give citizens the freedom of speech and religion.
Coercive interrogation: Based on race, suspects were interrogated in unreasonable ways. Many citizens went to court or to the press to complain about the unnecessary force that law enforcement authorities used to try to get information from them or try to get them to admit to something with which they were not involved, even when there was no evidence against these so-called suspects. This rigorous interrogation is also a violation of citizens’ Fifth Amendment rights, which protects them from self-incrimination.
Detention and torture: While most people were detained for a few hours or days, there have been cases where people were detained for several months even if there was the slightest hint of suspicion regarding them. Such detainees were not just kept in custody, not allowed to contact their families and friends, and questioned, but also tortured in various unconstitutional ways, such as with waterboarding, which is a technique in which the detainee goes through a simulated drowning experience. These measures were a direct violation of the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and also the Eighth Amendment right, which prohibits cruelty against citizens at the hands of law enforcement authorities.
Habeas corpus refers to the legal tenet that all individuals who are imprisoned need to be brought to court so that they can be judged by the criminal justice system (a jury of their peers), and then declared as innocent or guilty based on the evidence presented. Although habeas corpus is not a part of the Bill of Rights, it is an integral part of the US criminal justice system and the basis on which the Bill of Rights operates. Similar to the civil rights guaranteed to citizens from the Bill of Rights, the tenet of habeas corpus was also violated post 9/11 because many individuals were detained unlawfully for days and even months. These individuals were not given a chance at a fair trial before being detained, which gravely violated their Sixth Amendment right
Which of these sentences is an example of a stereotype?
There are many students in that class.
There are many families eating at the restaurant.
Babies need someone to take care of them.
Women are better at cooking than men are.
Answer:
Women are better at cooking than men are.
Explanation:
Answer:
"Women are better at cooking than men are." is a stereotype.
Explanation:
The other three answers are not stereotypes because they are either measurable or true.
"There are many students in that class." is not a stereotype because the sentence is talking about the specific class, and can be true.
"There are many families eating at the restaurant." is not a stereotype. It is about the same as the first option. The sentence is talking about a specific restaurant.
"Babies need someone to take care of them." is not a stereotype. It is a true statement.
"Women are better at cooking than men are." is a stereotype. Both men and women can be good at cooking. The sentence is a stereotype because it is made on assumptions and generalizations.

After learning about active listening in Unit 3, it is time to put your active listening skills to the test and try them out! For this lab, you will be exploring two different pieces of music using the listening checklist described in the unit—and your active listening skills, of course!
Start by finding and selecting two pieces of music online. You are free to choose whatever type of music you like: pop, rock, rap, classical, instrumental, etc. Do your best to select something that is as appropriate as possible (i.e., as free as possible from curse words and inappropriate content) as your teacher will be listening to your selections too.
Create a word processing document and copy/paste a link for each musical selection in it. Below each music selection, copy/paste or recreate this chart (seen below).
Listen carefully to your first musical selection at least twice. Then, fill out the chart based on your listening. Repeat the process for the second musical selection.
Download this chart to analyze each piece of music:
RTF (Edit) PDF (Print)
After you have listened to each music selection and filled out the listening chart for each, it’s time to do some comparing and contrasting.
Write a one- to three-paragraph essay that compares and contrasts the two pieces of music that you listened to. If you need some help with what specific things to compare/contrast, refer to the listening charts that you filled out or the questions below:
How do the two musical pieces differ?
How are the two musical pieces similar?
Were the instruments featured in the two pieces different from each other?
What differences or similarities were there in tempo, or speed, of the music?
Were there any differences in what you were imagining as you listened to each piece? Did you hear a story in either piece? What emotions were evoked from listening to each song?
For information on how you will be graded, please refer to the rubric below.
Answer:
Have you ever wondered how Country and Rap music differ? Music genres include pop, rock, jazz, rap, and country. But most of them have some commons, which confuses many. I compare rap to country music in this essay. After reading this article, you should realize how much country and rap music share and how little they vary. There are many features that individual might compare. Most people assume Rap and Country music are quite different, although they have many commonalities, such strong female performers, and meaningful lyrics. Despite their differences, rap and country have a lot in common.
Rap and country lyrics are opposite. Despite their musical differences, the performers' performances and presentations have certain parallels. Before a country performance, folks tailgate and grill in the parking lot. Most rap fans come a few minutes early and take their seats. For example, most country performers are white, whereas most rap artists are black. While many white individuals attend rap concerts, few black people attend country concerts. The crowds at each concert are also different ages. Rap performances attract teenagers whereas country concerts draw all ages. These musicians can perform everywhere. Most rap concerts tend to be staged in indoor settings like basketball stadiums, theaters, or hockey rinks. Some country concerts are hosted inside, but most are staged outside in amphitheaters. Also, many county performers play during summer fairs and festivals.
The music is clearly the largest difference between the two events. The musical instruments vary greatly. A rap concert usually simply has a DJ playing tracks on stage. A country performance features a wide range of musical instruments. Some performers play their own instruments, but most have backing bands. These ensembles include a drummer, guitarist, bassist, and keyboardist. There is even a violin, banjo, or harmonica.
Lyrics are as vital as a singer's voice. A vocalist typically picks or creates a song that has a deeper significance to them. A song's lyrics may convey a wide range of emotions. They prefer to sing about love and sex. However, rappers are more candid than country performers. People like to country and rap music because they can connect to the lyrics. A song that is not relatable will not sell as well. When you listen to a music, you want the lyrics to signify something to you. When life becomes tough, some individuals resort to song lyrics. It makes you feel better knowing someone else has been through it and won.
Famous rappers include Eminem. He wrote a lot of songs about his life, kids, troubles, and feelings. His song "Mockingbird" is typical of his music. "Hayleigh, I know you miss your mom, and I know you miss your dad, while I'm gone, but I'm trying to give you the life that I never had." (“Eminem - Mockingbird Lyrics | AZ Lyrics”) During a difficult period, he penned this song for Haleigh. The music of country performers is not used to describe their life narrative. They sing about love, loss, or fun. Instead of delivering a tale, country performers utilize song to communicate sentiments. A superb musician, Clint Black. He created "When I Said I Do" for his wife. Here is the chorus: "When I said I do, I meant that I will 'til the end of all time be faithful and true, devoted to you. (“Kenny Lattimore - When I Said I Do Lyrics | AZ Lyrics”) That's what I had in mind when I said I do.”
In conclusion, music is like most things in life. Overall, both country and rap music contain essential and personal lyrics. Rap artists use their music to convey a tale, while country musicians use their music to express sentiments rather than tell a story.

How did most Roman plebeians make a living?
1. as slaves and servants
2. as soldiers and generals
3. as farmers and traders
4. as senators and priests
Answer:
answer: 2 farmers and generals or soldiers and generals
Explanation:
Plebeians were average working citizens of Rome – farmers, bakers, builders or craftsmen – who worked hard to support their families and pay their taxes.
Some plebeians, who were doing reasonably well, might try to save enough money to join the equestrian class. For many, however, life was a daily struggle.
Although patricians are often represented as rich and powerful families who managed to secure power over the less-fortunate plebeian families, plebeians and patricians among the senatorial class were often equally wealthy.
All the other citizens of Rome were Plebeians. Plebeians were the farmers, craftsmen, laborers, and soldiers of Rome. In the early stages of Rome, the plebeians had few rights. All of the government and religious positions were held by patricians.
Answer:
3. As farmers and traders.

According to pbs.org, "Plebeians were average working citizens of Rome – farmers, bakers, builders or craftsmen – who worked hard to support their families and pay their taxes."
