Which would be a primary source for an argument for or against having a quinceañera? O textbook chapter about Hispanic communities Onewspaper article about coming-of-age ceremonies
O encyclopedia article about quinceañeras
O interview with Hispanic teenage girl

Answers

Answer:

O Interview with Hispanic teenage girl.

Explanation:

A primary source is a source that is used to support an argument or claim made. And that source is primary because of its source, meaning, it is not rewritten or reproduced, or revised. It contains the first-hand account or an account told by a person who is a witness to that particular event.

A quinceañera is a coming-of-age event popular among the Hispanic community when a girl turns 15 years old. This celebration is a sort of welcome party for a girl from girlhood to womanhood. This practice is done to mark the change in the girl and a welcome into the world of adulthood.

An interview with a Hispanic teenage girl will be the best primary source for a quinceañera because she would have already gone through the event herself and would present the best first-hand account of the celebration.

Thus, the correct answer is the fourth/last option.

Answer:

interview with Hispanic teenage girl

excerpt from "Conservation As a National Duty" by President Theodore Roosevelt, May 13, 1908

President Theodore Roosevelt was an avid supporter of conserving America’s natural resources. During his administration, the National Park System grew dramatically. He also created 51 Federal Bird Reserves which eventually became national wildlife refuges. His conservation efforts encompassed over 230 million acres of public land.

The natural resources . . . can be divided into two sharply distinguished classes accordingly as they are or are not capable of renewal. Mines if used must necessarily be exhausted. The minerals do not and can not renew themselves. Therefore in dealing with the coal, the oil, the gas, the iron, the metals generally, all that we can do is to try to see that they are wisely used. The exhaustion is certain to come in time. We can trust that it will be deferred long enough to enable the extraordinarily inventive genius of our people to devise means and methods for more or less adequately replacing what is lost; but the exhaustion is sure to come.

The second class of resources consists of those which can not only be used in such manner as to leave them undiminished for our children, but can actually be improved by wise use. The soil, the forests, the waterways come in this category. Every one knows that a really good farmer leaves his farm more valuable at the end of his life than it was when he first took hold of it. So with the waterways. So with the forests. In dealing with mineral resources, man is able to improve on nature only by putting the resources to a beneficial use which in the end exhausts them; but in dealing with the soil and its products man can improve on nature by compelling the resources to renew and even reconstruct themselves in such manner as to serve increasingly beneficial uses—while the living waters can be so controlled as to multiply their benefits.

Which concept underlies Roosevelt's explanation of the two types of resources?

Farmers need to know how to conserve soil and water, above all. - A

Each type of resource should be used appropriately, in its own way. - B

Coal and metals are a more urgent priority than renewable resources. - C

Conservationists must no longer ignore the problem of renewable resources. - D

How do you think
people your age have been affected by the events, technology and culture of the years in
which you've grown up? How do you think other generations are different from yours?
Why?

Answers

Answer:

Well, our generation was born with the iPhone. This would lead all of us to have one of course. The events of which have happened obviously took a big chunk out of our lives, and most others didn't have that when they were 15-16.   The culture however has changed. Ladies used to be expected to wear a dress and have manners. Now ladies wear ripped pants and graphic tees. I don't think affected is the word. I think we've completly changed. Other generations didn't have a TV, nor a phone. They had to play outside all the time. We just sit inside with our faces in our phones. We don't have to work as hard to get what we want. How do morals and values come into play with regard to substance use/abuse and recovery?

Answers

Answer:

When drug or alcohol abuse consumes a person’s life, one of the first things to go is the person’s ability to make rational, moral choices. He (or she) can no longer make the kind of simple judgments that the unaddicted can make easily. The addict will feel that getting and using drugs is more important than caring for his or her children, holding a job or being a responsible citizen. That is the kind of domination that addictive drug cravings have over the addict. It’s like the addict is in prison with no possibility of escape.

Analyze this text, Gatsby shouldered the mattress and started for the pool. Once he stopped and shifted it a little, and the chauffeur asked him if he needed help, but he shook his head and in a moment disappeared among the yellowing trees.

Answers

Answer and Explanation:

The text we are analyzing here is part of Chapter 8 of "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

The main character, Gatsby, has gone through a lot in his pursuit of Daisy, the love of his life. When Gatsby left for the war, Daisy married Tom Buchanan, an unfaithful millionaire. Now, Gatsby is trying to get her back. He gets involved with criminal businesses to become a millionaire as well and moves to a mansion right across the bay from Daisy's. Gatsby throws grand parties with the hope that Daisy will one day walk through his doors. They eventually become lovers, but a tragedy is about to end it all for them.

"Gatsby shouldered the mattress and started for the pool. Once he stopped and shifted it a little, and the chauffeur asked him if he needed help, but he shook his head and in a moment disappeared among the yellowing trees."

In the text above, Gatsby is about to be killed by George Wilson. There are a couple of symbols in the text that foreshadow Gatsby's death, such as his brief hesitation and the yellowing trees - green would mean life, but yellow is a reminder that winter is on its way, and that the trees will soon look lifeless. It is also interesting to notice that he is finally about to take a swim in his pool, something he hasn't done all summer. It is ironic that, when Gatsby finally takes some time to enjoy his life, it will suddenly be taken from him.
