The community believes it is a perfect utopian society since they have nothing to compare it to. They had no choice but to believe what the authorities (elders) said.
The Giver tells the story of two individuals, "The Giver" and "The Receiver in Training,"(Jonas) who are trying to free their community. On the other side, the chief elder did not want this to happen, and she demanded that both of them be detained. But before she could arrest Jonas he crossed the line of memories.
