Nazi concentration camps

From 1933 to 1945, Nazi Germany operated more than a thousand concentration camps on its own territory and in parts of German-occupied Europe. The first camps were established in March 1933 immediately after Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. Following the Night of Long Knives in 1934, the concentration camps were run exclusively by the SS via the Concentration Camps Inspectorate and later the SS Main Economic and Administrative Office. Initially, most prisoners were members of the Communist Party of Germany, but as time went on different groups were arrested, including "habitual criminals", "asocials", and Jews. After the beginning of World War II, people from German-occupied Europe were imprisoned in the concentration camps. Following Allied military victories, the camps were gradually liberated in 1944 and 1945, although hundreds of thousands of prisoners died in the death marches.

There is only one theme to or for each poem or short story or novel or play. The theme of a work of literature is its central or dominant idea. The theme of a poem is more than the subject of the poem; theme refers to the ideas the poet explores.

Answers

Answer:

There is only one theme to or for each poem or short story or novel or play.

Explanation:

It is common for literary works to have more than one theme, mainly long works, which can address several different subjects efficiently and well presented. In this case, it is incorrect to say that poems, short stories, plays and novels always have a single theme, although this sometimes happens.

The theme is the main subject that will be approached and explored in the course of the work. In order to determine the theme, it is important that the critic of the work evaluates all elements of composition such as voice, tone, mod, figures of speech, symbolism, among others.

Explanation:

Repetition is the figure of speech that allows the use of a word or phrase to be repeated several times during a text. The use of repetition is intended to highlight a concept that is present in the text. We have several options: we may be tempted to try to live by the Christian ideal of being "our brother's keeper," or by the Marxist ideal of "to each according to his needs. " Since the needs of all in the water are the same, and since they can all be seen as "our brothers," we could take them all into our boat, making a total of 150 in a boat designed for 60. The boat swamps, everyone drowns. Complete justice, complete catastrophe.

Why does the author put quotation marks around some words in the passage?

A. To show that the author agrees with the phrase because it is important to his main argument

B. To show that the phrase is a quote from another source, giving the author more credibility

C. To show that the author is questioning the phrase and even implying that it has the opposite meaning

D. To show that the phrase is not important to the central argument and should be ignored

Answers

The author puts quotation marks around some words in the passage to signify that the terms are noteworthy. By putting the words in quotes, the author indicates that the phrases are essential and require particular attention or explanation. The quotes are utilized to provide extra emphasis, express irony or sarcasm, and question the validity of the terms. Therefore, the correct answer is option (C).

To show that the author is questioning the phrase and even implying that it has the opposite meaning. The author does not agree with either Christian or Marxist ideals. Instead, the author is questioning the ideas that we should live by the Christian ideal of being "our brother's keeper" or the Marxist ideal of "to each according to his needs."

The author highlights the potential consequences of living by these ideals in the context of a lifeboat scenario. In the lifeboat scenario, the author argues that it is not feasible to save everyone and still maintain the boat's safety. Consequently, the author disputes the notion of being our "brother's keeper" and the Marxist ideal of "to each according to his needs."

Garrett Hardin's "Lifeboat Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor" discusses how resources, such as food and water, are limited and not equally distributed worldwide. Hardin believes that the carrying capacity of the planet has its limits and as the population continues to grow, more and more people will not have access to these resources.

He argues that we cannot help the poor by giving them aid because it would lead to more people requiring aid. Instead, Hardin believes that we need to conserve our resources and let people deal with the consequences of their actions.

Odysseus is the hero of the story. Think of another hero from a movie, book or real life. Use the chart to compare/contrast Odysseus with the hero that you chose.

Answers

Answer and Explanation:

We can compare Odysseus with Beowulf, since both are heroes of their stories and represent ancient works of great literary importance.

As previously stated, both Odysseus and Beowulf are heroes and both fought with large and powerful monsters, such as the Cyclops (defeated by Odysseus) and Grendel (defeated by Beowulf). However, the way the two heroes set up their fights is very different. Beowulf establishes a fight based on strength, since he is a man of extreme strength capable of defeating the strongest of men and creatures. Odysseus, on the other hand, establishes his battles based on his intelligence and cunning, using little or no force.

The loyalty of the two heroes is also very different. Beowulf is extremely loyal to his family and friends, doing everything to protect them. Odisseus, on the other hand, is faithful to his men and often ends up having an overconfidence that hinders this fidelity, in addition, Odisseu presents several moments of infidelity to his family, although he wishes to return to her.

She shuffled her feet and sighed, making it quite obvious that she was upset. The caseworker didn't respond. Of course. Why would she? She was only uprooting her life again. "Ahem." She raised an eyebrow, trying to hide the sour sting in her heart. the caseworker finally looked up "What? You hungry? Thirsty?" She shook her head after a second "Just sit still, we will have you relocated soon enough." Relocated? Was she a dog? "I was just gonna ask why i have to leave another house." The caseworker sighed "Because of...Difficulties." Aria frowned thats all they ever said. "difficluties." She hadn't relized she said it out loud until the caseworked sighed louder than she had before. "Listen, it just didn't work out. You'll be in a new home soon." Aria clenched her jaw "It's not really a home when you only live there for four months." This time the caseworker ignored her. So Aria leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes. wringing her hands until they turned white.
When she opened them again the sky had turned to a pink shade, and she watched for a second as it slowly sank towards the ground. She glanced around and met the eyes of her annoyed caseworker, who obviously wanted to go home. "Get up. You're sleeping here toninght."
"What-?" Aria clenched her hands, digging her fingers into her palm.
"I said you're sleeping here." she jabbed a finger towards a room, the door was slightly ajar and inside was a table a couple chairs and a couch. Aria frowned "On a couch?" the caseworker nodded "I'll be in the next room."

[Hint: Any number n can be represented as one of the five cases: 9k, 9k31, 9k+2, 9k:3, 9k+4] Amy Lloyd is interested in leasing a new car and has contacted three automobile dealers for pricing information. Each dealer offered Amy a closed-end 36 month lease with no down payment due at the time of signing. Each lease includes a monthly charge and a mileage allowance. Additional miles receive a surcharge on a per-mile basis. The monthly lease cost, the mileage allowance, and the cost for additional miles follow: Dealer Monthly Cost Mileage Cost per Allowance Additional Mile $289 35,000 $0.15 Dealer Dealer B Dealer $300 45.000 $0.20 5315 54,000 $0.15 Amy decided to choose the lease option that will minimize her total 36- month cost. The difficulty is that Amy is not sure how many miles she will drive over the next three years. For purposes of this decision she believes it is reasonable to assume that she will drive 12,000 miles per year, 15,000 miles per year, or 18,000 miles per year. With this assumption Amy estimated her total costs for the three lease options. For example, she figures that the Dealer Alease will cost her 36($289) + $0.15(36,000 - 36,000) - $10,404 if she drives 12,000 miles per year 36(5289) - $0.15[45,000 - 36,000) - $11.754 if she drives 15,000 miles per year, or 36($289) + $0.15(54,000 - 36,000) - $13,104 if she drives 18,000 miles per year. (a) What is the decision, and what is the chance event? The decision is to choose the best lose option alternatives. The chance event is the number of mes driven There are possible outcomes (b) Construct a payoff table. Enter your answers in $).
