What is the context, source and analysis of the letter.
Context: In July 1865, some months after the cease of the Civil War, Colonel P. H. Anderson wrote a letter to his former and now freed slave Jordan Anderson asking him to return back again and work at the Tennessee plantation which were left in disarray from the war.
Analysis: It has been defined as an extraordinary instance of documented "slave humor" .
While a simple letter declaring his unwillingness to return would have been sufficient, Jourdan continues to cordially respond in a manner that shows the truth and logical reasoning as to what Colonel P.H. Anderson must ensure in order to make Jourdan come back.
