The Case of Modern Wheat
by Alisa Scerrato

The gluten-free lifestyle has recently become a hot topic in the United States. "Gluten-free" products and advertisements seem to be everywhere. What is this thing called gluten, and why are so many people suddenly cutting it out of their diets when they have been consuming it for years without debate?
Gluten is a general name for protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and triticale. It acts as a glue to help certain foods maintain their shape. Most people think that gluten exists only in bread, baked goods, and cereals, but it is also found in soups, sauces, salad dressings, and many other foods that are less commonly known to be associated with wheat.
Some scientists claim that gluten is a strange protein and inherently difficult for humans to digest. The reason for this is that there has been a change in the way wheat is produced in the United States over the past several years. Modern cultivation of wheat is done in order to boost the protein content. Research has shown that gluten being used in "modern wheat" makes breaking down certain foods hard on the stomach. Some Americans just happen to react more severely than others to gluten. The symptoms of gluten intolerance vary from person to person.
Eating gluten has recently been discovered to contribute to such medical issues as irritable bowel syndrome, arthritis, acne, and depression, just to name a few. Another more serious reaction to the consumption of gluten is referred to as celiac disease. About 2 million people in the United States suffer from this disease. Celiac disease is an autoimmune digestive disease that interferes with the absorption of nutrients from food. This disease is serious as it can lead to a number of issues including neurological disorders, reduced bone density, and sometimes cancer. Eating in restaurants or in other people’s homes is challenging for people with celiac disease because knowing which foods contain gluten can be difficult. In general, people should educate themselves about the ingredients found in different foods, but people who are particularly sensitive to gluten have to be even more diligent. There are no pharmaceutical cures for gluten intolerance, so some people must manage their gluten intake by being aware and adhering to strict diets.
While celiac disease is the most extreme case, eating a low or no gluten diet can indeed provide health benefits for many people. In fact, many Americans have found that abstaining from gluten has helped improve their lives.

Imagine this: a small dog sits in a dark, cold garage. His hair is matted and dirty; he is skinny and weak from going days without food. There is no water for him to drink, no person to give him love and no blanket to keep him warm at night. While this might be a hard scenario to imagine, it is not an uncommon one in America today. According to the Humane Society of the United States, nearly 1,000,000 animals are abused or die from abuse every year. As a veterinarian with 30 years of experience, I have seen how even one incident of abuse can affect an animal for the rest of its life. As a society, we need to be more aware of this terrible problem and address this issue before it gets worse.

1. State the title of the book
2. How many pages
3. 120 characters at least of the summary of the book

Answers

Answer:

I decided to do a book report about The Hunger Games  by Suzanne Collins. It came out back in 2008, yet I only read it this past school year. It was a lovely discovery. I have not been able to find any recent books that I am interested in enough to read. But reading The Hunger Games caught my full attention and interested me greatly. It is a dystopian future themed book packed full of adventure and politics. It’s main character is a girl named Katniss Everdeen. She is one of my favorite female leads in any book I’ve read. She’s a very independent and pessimistic character, both of which are not commonly seen traits in female leads. She took care of her family from a young age after her father died. She had a hard life growing up which has led her to not trusting people very easily or being very optimistic about life.I found it very easy to get interested in this book.

It drew me in with various symbolic meanings and political themes. I find the setting of the book to very closely relate towards how the American government is heading. People with money will have all of the power and the poor will be left no choice but to obey their every command. The people of the Capitol know that they have the power and they use it to their advantage. Power hungry politicians have the same mindsets. They don’t care whose life gets ruined as long as they get what they want in the end. The Capitol people pretend to care about the people of the districts, but they don’t.

There is a wide spectrum of character types to help represent each district. This helps paint a picture to the readers of what life is like in each district. I dislike when a book is solely based on developing romance. The Hunger Games is a breath of fresh air with little to no romance. Romance in the book is almost like an afterthought, but even when it comes into the book it is not a huge part of the book and is even a little faked. I’m not a big fan of books only based over romance, but The Hunger Games does a great job of not focusing on romance and mainly focusing on the plot and character development. Overall I really like this book, once I started I couldn’t put it down. It is a book that will draw readers in and immerse them into the universe that they are reading about. I would highly suggest reading this book and a special thanks to _____( WHOEVER YOU WANT)___ for introducing this book to me.

What is Cupid?

In Latin poetry, Cupid is referred to as Amor and is the ancient Roman god of all forms of love. He is Eros's opposite in Greek mythology. According to myth, Cupid was the progeny of Venus, the goddess of love, and Mercury, the gods' eagle-borne messenger.

He was the son of Aphrodite and was known as Eros in Greek mythology. According to Roman legend, Cupid was envious of Psyche's beauty, but he nevertheless fell deeply in love with her. He married her and instructed her to avoid his gaze at all costs. He only paid her visits at night.

In Roman mythology, Cupid is the deity of desire, sensual love, attraction, and affection.

Write an informational paragraph about the Great Wall of China (100 points)

Answers

Answer:

The Great Wall of China is the top ten new wonders of the world 2012. Located in China it stretches from Shanhaiguan in the east, to Lop Lake in the west. The entire wall is about 21,000 km long. The main part of the wall is 2,500 miles long and stretches through all sorts of mountains. The wall is thirty feet high and twenty-five feet thick at its base.

The Huns and barbarians had no farming land and they used to entre china and killed and invade the people for food and wealth. The wall was constructed to protect China and its people from Huns and barbarians and also restrict the entry of invaders coming from the Silk Road.

“There in the mist, enormous, majestic, silent and terrible, stood the Great Wall of China. Solitarily, with the indifference of nature herself, it crept up the mountain side and slipped down to the depth of the valley.” – W. Somerset Maugham

The construction of the wall started during the Qin dynasty at 221 BC. The emperor Qin Shih Huang aimed at protecting china from invaders who regularly attacked Chinese farming villages. The Great wall surrounded the central part of China, which was the most important part of China.

It took more than hundred years in completing The Great Wall. The wall started deteriorating with the passage of time because of natural disasters, strong winds dusts and storms. It was constructed again in the 15th century by Emperor Meng Tien.
