There were two possible results from this experiment. One was that the sum of the intensity of light from each slit will give the intensity of both slits. In this case, light would be a particle. The second possible result was that dark and light bands will be created on the observation screen due to the interference patterns made by the superposition of light. In this case, light would be a wave.
At the end of the experiment, interference patterns were observed on the screen, which showed that light travelled in waves. Hence, Thomas Young's double slit experiment showed the wave-like nature of light.
