Answer 1

Answer:

Childhood & Early Life

Adam Clayton Powell Jr. was born on November 29, 1908, in New Haven, Connecticut to Adam Clayton Powell Senior and Mattie Buster Shaffer. Both his parents were of mixed racial origin and because of that young Powell was born with light complexion, blond hair and hazel eyes. He also had a sister, named Blanche, ten years his senior.

Immediately after the birth of his son, Adam Clayton Powell Sr. became the pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, located at Harlem. Consequently, the family shifted to Harlem and eventually settled there. Though born poor Adam Sr. had worked his way up and consequently, Adam Junior grew up in comfortable surroundings.

Adam Junior passed out from Townsend Harris High School and enrolled at City College of New York. However, he spent much of time having fun and attending nightclubs. Hearing this, his father took him out of the college and put him in Colgate University as a freshman.

Adam Jr. graduated from Colgate University in 1930 with a BA degree. He next joined Columbia University and in 1933, he earned his MA in Religious Education from there. He then joined Shaw University and graduated from there in 1934.

How did black women's experience in the Civil Rights Movement affect them afterwards WOMEN IN THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT.

Answers

The civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s overturned the trend of "race" segregation in public facilities in the South and won the greatest significant breakthrough in equal-rights legislation for African Americans since Reconstruction (1865–77).

How did women get equality with the help of the civil right act?

To address these issues, a second women's rights movement formed in the 1960s. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employment differentiation based on gender, as well as race, color, national origin, and religion.

Nonetheless, women were still denied jobs based on their gender and were frequently harassed at work. Feminists who were dissatisfied with the lack of progress made by women and the government's lax implementation of Title VII founded the National Organization for Women in 1966.

(NOW). NOW advocated for workplace equality, including equal pay for women, as well as increased female representation in public office, the professions, and graduate and professional degree programs.

Therefore, with the help of the civil right act women experienced equal rights.

Which statement about the judicial branch is true?

a. can raise taxes
b. can veto laws passed by Congress
c. can confirm federal officials
d. can declare a law unconstitutional

Answers

The answer is d , can declare a law inconstitutional

Answer: Can declare a law unconstitutional

The judicial branch has the power of judicial review. Judicial review is the power of the courts to study whether actions of the legislative or judicial branches go against the Constitution. When citizens bring a case to the Supreme Court, it may review laws or acts of the other branches that relate to the case. The court will determine if the law conflicts with the Constitution. In 1996, Congress passed a law giving the president the power to veto a part or parts of a new bill before signing it into law. Representatives challenged this power in court, and the Supreme Court decided that the Constitution gave the president power to veto an entire law only, not parts of laws. Thus, the justices declared the law unconstitutional. Government leaders continue to debate whether the president should have this power.

Document B: Mingo White’s Narrative

(Sourcing) When was this interview conducted? How might this affect the reliability of this source?

(Contextualization) According to Mingo White, "there were a lot of slave speculators in Chester to buy some slaves for some folks in Alabama." What was happening in the economy of the Deep South at that time (1840-1852)? How might this historical context help to explain why there were so many slave traders in Chester?

How does this narrative provide evidence of the human impact of the domestic slave trade?

Answers

1. The interview of Mingo White by Levi D. Shelby Jr. was conducted between 1936 and 1938 as the exact date remains uncertain.

2. This uncertain date might jeopardize the reliability of the source since there must have been some certain dates when the interview was held.

3. The economy of the Deep South between 1840 and 1852 was greatly steeped into the transportation and trading of persons in the slavery business for powering agricultural production.

4. The historical context that explains the reason for the presence of many slave traders in Chester is that Chester businessmen used the then-thriving Chester seaport to convey African Americans to Alabama.

5. This Mingo White's narrative provides evidence that the domestic slave trade devastated many families, separating children from their parents and wives from their husbands, just because African Americans were then regarded as marketable properties and human agricultural machines.

What is the slave trade?

Slave trade involves the capture, transportation, sale, and purchase of enslaved persons, mainly Africans. While the slave trade remains an ancient practice, the Atlantic slave trade decimated the population of Africa. Its modern form takes the payment of non-living wages to workers.

Thus, we can conclude that the lack of a certain date punctures the interview's reliability.
