Claim: Wolves no longer need protection.

Tension exists between the ranchers who feel threatened by wolves and the conservationists who want to see wolves protected. Many ranchers want to remove federal protections for the gray wolves. They want to allow hunting again. They point to increased wolf populations in several states. Numbers have grown from under 1,000 to more than 5,000. The increase has led to more wolf attacks on sheep and cattle. Conservationists say that current wolf packs and populations are not at all stable. They point to the fact that wolves neared extinction before laws protecting them were enacted. Allowing hunting could eliminate the gains.

In 3 to 5 sentences, explain whether the author's evidence is relevant and sufficient to support the claim. Explain how the author could make the paragraph stronger.

(4 points)

Answers

Yes,Because the author has strong supporting details and factual evidence like the wolves have grown from under 1000 to 5000. The author also supports there claim with evidence about more wolves attacking sheep and cattle causing less gain for cattle.the text has a strong support of the hunting of wolves and has an even stronger evidence to support their claim.

How can I tell the difference between complete sentences and run - on sentences ?

Answers

Answer:

A run-on sentence occurs when two or more independent clauses (also known as complete sentences) are connected improperly. eg. : I would write one every day if I had the time. One common type of run-on sentence is a comma splice. A comma splice occurs when two independent clauses are joined with just a comma.

Hope that helps. x

Explanation:

One of the easiest ways to tell is try reading the sentence out loud. You shouldn't be running out of breath reading a sentence. Another way is when there is a new point being made, or a slight change in the topic or subject, and there is a period, or comma missing, that would be a run on sentence.

Example below

Another way is when there is a new point being made or a slight change in the topic or subject and there is a period or comma missing that would be a run on sentence.

MODIFICATIONS: Write one paragraph.

Answers

If you are teaching writing a 5-paragraph essay with the writing process, then your first step will be teaching students to brainstorm for topics and filling out a graphic organizer. When brainstorming a topic, it is important for students to pick a focused, narrow topic that they know a lot about. When filling out the graphic organizer, it is important for students to include main ideas and details in an organized way.

Modifications: Students who are writing a 3-paragraph essay instead of writing a 5-paragraph essay will need to brainstorm topics also. Special needs students may have difficulty narrowing their topics. For example, they may choose dogs, but this is too broad. You will need to work with these students during this lesson to choose a narrower topic, or you can also give them partners to work with. When doing prewriting and filling out the graphic organizer, students will have a smaller graphic organizer since they are writing three paragraphs. It is helpful if the teacher fills out the main ideas for the student, and then asks them to write details that they want to include in each of the paragraphs. An example might be: Paragraph 1: Introduce topic of Taking Your Dog For a Walk; Paragraph 2: Three Things to Always Remember When Taking Your Dog For a Walk; Paragraph 3: Conclusion and Why it is Important to Take Dogs for a Walk.

Answer: Where did you find this book

Explanation:

It is March 15, in the year 2514. The people of former New York are in desperate circumstances. They are being overrun, and they are losing hope. The banners proclaiming a Free the Real NYC lie in the gutters, trampled by terrified and panicked citizens. Two teens– or kidz, as they are called now– are on their way home from a secret meeting. As they walk in the shadows to avoid detection, they both trip on a huge titanium cylinder. Etched into the surface are a series of scratched-out words. The only words they can make out are, "he will prevail." They drag the heavy cylinder into a hidden alleyway and twist it open. The glow from their flashlights reveals the contents of the cylinder. With gasps of relief, they look at each other with hope in their eyes for the first time in years.

Adam and Bridget were walking home one night from a Free the Real NYC meeting. They were walking in the shadows to avoid being caught by the curfew police when they tripped over a huge titanium cylinder. There were three words etched on it that they could read. "He will prevail?", Bridget asked quizzed, "What's that supposed to mean?" Out of curiosity, Adam opened the container. They shone their flashlights at the titanium cylinder as they gasped in awe and relief. It was a news article from December 13, 2505! It was written about how the leader of the formerly NYC was planning to build a machine that could wipe out the entire city! They rushed back to the secret base of the Free the Real NYC resistance. They put the container on the table. Now that it was in better lighting, they could read the rest of the etchings. They read ψοφώ, Greek for "I'm dying." They learn that the etching was written by the founder of the resistance, Henry Gihigal. He wrote it when the leader of the Cultists, Tabea Thomas, was torturing him with methods unheard of. He wrote the "He will prevail" section speaking of the resistance. The "ψοφώ" was to tell the resistance to choose a new leader. They started planning their attack to make sure that the machine was destroyed.

Describe how glacier mice are complete ecosystems, even though they are tiny.

Answers

Glacier mice might be complete ecosystems since in the article it states that, "A glacier mouse is not an organism, but there are many organisms living inside it".

Glacier mice, which are formed when masses of dust and organic matter build up a coating of moss over time, hop across large sheets of ice in strong winds.

What do you mean by the Glacier?

A glacier is a sizable, enduring mass of crystalline ice, snow, rock, silt, and frequently liquid water that forms on land and slides down a slope due to gravity and its own weight.

Glacier mice appear to be little and fluffy, but they are actually lumps of moss the size of a softball that are neither rodents nor even creatures.

When the ablation of snow is greater than the accumulation over a long period of time, frequently centuries, a glacier forms. As it slowly flows and deforms under forces brought on by its weight, it gains distinctive features like crevasses and seracs.

The world's freshwater is stored in glacial ice, which together with ice sheets makes up the greatest freshwater reserve on Earth.

Therefore, Glacier mice, which are formed when masses of dust and organic matter build up a coating of moss over time, hop across large sheets of ice in strong winds.

Explanation:

Do canteens make a positive difference in the lives of others? In the article Minute That Matter by Kristina Waltz, two teenagers Brittany & her brother Robbie wanted to help military soldiers with their phone bills so they started an organization called Cell Phones for Soldiers.   In another article, Food that Fuels by Chad Bailey, Cassandra & other teenagers formed another organization called Food that Fuels where they save food grease & reuse it and refine it into biodiesel. These two organizations helped many people.

In the organization Cell Phone for Soldiers, Kristina & Robbie first began by raising money to help a  soldier pay his cell phone bill. Brittany decided to send donated cell phones to the soldiers.  They collected old phones and turned them in to be recycled & then used that money to send prepaid phone cards to troops.  “Over 180 million talk time has been given to soldiers” due to this organization.

In the organization Food That Fuels Cassandra & other teenagers used old cooking to create biodiesel. They went to the school board and spoke to them about using this fuel for the school busses. “It doesn’t matter how big or small you are, anyone can make a difference.  Cassandra & other teenagers are making a positive difference.

Both these organizations help others by using recycled products.  Both organizations have earned awards and even Cassandra & the other teenagers have gone to the White house. Although they both used recycled products, they used different products.  The Cell Phone for Soldiers used recycled phones to help pay for phone minute cards for soldiers.   The Food That Fuels used old cooking oil to refine and make biodiesel fuel. These two organizations may be different and are also similar in being teenagers and helping others.

Teenagers can make a positive difference in the lives of others. Food That Fuels helps their environment by using old cooking oil to create biodiesel.   Cell Phone for Soldiers helps soldiers by collecting old cell phones to recycle and earn prepaid cell phones for soldiers. Teenagers help people.
