Was the 1911 Revolution a revolution for all Chinese people, or only for some?

Answers

Explanation:

The 1911 Revolution, also known as the Chinese Revolution or the Xinhai Revolution, ended China's last imperial dynasty, the Manchu-led Qing dynasty, and resulted in the establishment of the Republic of China on 1 January 1912. The revolution was named Xinhai (Hsin-hai) because it occurred in 1911, the year of the Xinhai (辛亥) stem-branch in the sexagenary cycle of the traditional Chinese calendar.[2] The revolution marked the end of 2,000 years of imperial rule and the beginning of China's early republican era.[3]The revolution culminated a decade of agitation, revolts, and uprisings. The Qing dynasty had struggled for a long time to reform the government and resist foreign aggression, but the program of reforms after 1900 was opposed by Manchu conservatives at court as too radical and by Chinese reformers as too slow. Underground anti-Qing groups, revolutionaries in exile, reformers who wanted to save the monarchy by modernizing it, and activists across the country debated how or whether to overthrow the Manchus. The flash-point came on 10 October 1911, with the Wuchang Uprising, an armed rebellion among members of the New Army. Similar revolts broke out spontaneously around the country. The abdication of the last Chinese emperor, the six-year-old Puyi, was promulgated on 12 February 1912.

In Nanjing, however, revolutionary armies established a provisional coalition government. The National Assembly declared the Republic of China, then declared Sun Yat-sen, the leader of the Tongmenghui (United League), President of the Republic. A brief civil war between North and South ended in compromise. Sun resigned in favor of Yuan Shikai, who became President of the new national government in Beijing. Yuan's failure to establish a legitimate central government before his death in 1916 led to decades of political division and warlordism, including attempts at imperial restoration.

The Republic of China on the island of Taiwan and the People's Republic of China on the mainland both consider themselves the legitimate successors to the 1911 Revolution and honor the ideals of the revolution including nationalism, republicanism, modernization of China and national unity. In Taiwan, 10 October is commemorated as Double Ten Day, the National Day of the ROC. In mainland China, the day is celebrated as the Anniversary of the 1911 Revolution.

Question:It was NOT a weakness of the government under the Articles of Confederation.

A.The national government could not raise an army.

B.There was no national judicial system.

C.The national government was too powerful and violated state rights.

D.The national government could not impose taxes on citizens.

Answers

Answer:

Given: Which of the following was not a weakness of the articles of confederation (1781-1789)? A) a weak "league of friendship" among the states

B) the requirement of unanimous approval by all 13 states for amendments

C) no judicial branch

D) no congressional power to impose taxes

The articles state that the States are entered into a firm league of friendship with each other. This is to improve their common defense, the security of their liberties, general welfare, and so on. Thus the league of friendship is not a weakness. Which means that the answer is A).

Nine of the 13 states are needed to ratify a bill before it becomes a law and all states are needed to accept an amendment, thus B) is a weakness of the articles.

The government under the articles of confederation only contained one legislative body and provided no permanent national judiciary, thus C) is a weakness of the articles.

The Federal government was not able to impose taxes and thus D) is also a weakness of the articles.

OTHER WEAKNESSES

Little or no enforcement of the laws made by the President.

States print their own currency.

No foreign policy.

No federal army.

Lack of power over the states.

Strong state governments and weak federal government.

Each state has one vote, regardless of size.

CONCLUSION: A) “a weak league of friendship among the states” is not a weakness.

Explanation:

• Weaknesses under the Articles of Confederation:

• Problems within Congress-

-Congress had trouble passing laws (9 of the 13 states had to agree before any laws could be passed)

-There was no president or executive branch (no way to make sure that laws passed by Congress were carried out)

- Congress did not have the power to collect the taxes needed to pay for the expenses of the national government

- Congress could not pay the nation's debt nor could it provide government programs and services since it could not force the states into paying money

- no judicial system:

no courts to interpret laws or to judge those that broke(national court system did not exist)

- changing the Articles of Confederation was nearly impossible (A unanimous vote of all 13 states was required before any changes could be made). The way I see it is that all the answers listed are weaknesses that why I am confused...after reading this do you still think it would be answer B?

A weak "league of friendship" among the states is not a weakness as States are entered into a firm league of friendship with each other to improve their common defense, thet securiy of their liberties. Option (A) is correct.

The articles state that the States are entered into a firm league of friendship with each other. This is to improve their common defense, the security of their liberties, general welfare, and so on. Thus the league of friendship is not a weakness. Nine of the 13 states are needed to ratify a bill before it becomes a law and all states are needed to accept an amendment. Part B: Explain the impact of other causes, important events, and significant

figures on the Byzantine empire in complete sentences.

2. How did Justinian's actions contribute to the fall of the Byzantine  empire?

a. Justinian’s constant rebuilding of Constantinople after  the Nika riots contributed to the fall of Byzantium  because it led to serious financial problems of the empire  due to how expensive these projects were (the  reconstruction of the Hagia Sophia cost ~320k lbs. of  gold).  Attacks of the bubonic plague, called Justinian’s  plague led to the deaths of millions, which created a  great shortage of manpower unable to defend the

empire.

3. How did invading forces contribute to the fall of the Byzantine

empire?

a. The invasion of Constantinople by the Ottoman empire  led to the fall of Byzantium because the city of  Constantinople was the capital of the empire and its fall directly led to the fall of the empire.

4. What impact did the Macedonian Empire have on the Byzantine

empire?

a. It improved the Byzantine economy, strengthened the  army/navy, reconquered former territory, supported  arts/lit., weakened the control of powerful, and sent  missionaries to Slavs/Serbs.

5. How did the Crusades contribute to the fall of the Byzantine empire?

a. Crusaders attacked Constantinople in 1203, weakening  the city and the empire.

6. How did trade with the Venetians contribute to the fall of the Byzantine empire?

a. Trade with the Venetians contributed to the fall of  Byzantium as they participated in the 4th crusade which  saw the conquering of the capital.

The Fall of Constantinople was the result of the siege of the Byzantine capital by the Ottoman army, led by Sultan Mohammed II. This event marked the end of the millennial Byzantine Empire.

Byzantium was already weakened and divided in the last two centuries, a shadow of the old Empire. The Fall of 1204 by the Crusaders and later, after its recapture in 1261, political and religious disputes, the inability to help from the West, the poor economic situation and the flight of human resources, led to the gradual weakening and shrinking. The occupation of Gallipoli in 1354 by the Ottomans, which brought hordes of fanatical Muslim warriors to Europe, gradually encircled Byzantium, which in 1373 became a tributary to the Ottoman sultan.

Thus, the Fall came as a natural result of the uninterrupted expansion of the Ottoman Empire in the wider region. The clashes were particularly unequal in favor of the Turks, to the point that the sources mention the outcome of the siege. The consequence of the Fall was the relentless continuation of the territorial advance of the Turks in North Africa and Central Europe. At the end of the 17th century the Ottoman Empire reached its peak, threatening Vienna.

Which political revolution was the most successful in giving rights and freedoms to its citizens-

Answers

Explanation:

The French Revolution  refers to the period that began with the Estates General of 1789 and ended in November 1799 with the formation of the French Consulate. Many of its ideas are considered fundamental principles of Western liberal democracy.[1]Between 1700 and 1789, the French population increased from 18 million to 26 million, leading to large numbers of unemployed, accompanied by sharp increases in food prices caused by years of bad harvests.[2] Widespread social distress led to the convocation of the Estates General in May 1789, the first since 1614. In June, the Estates were converted into a National Assembly, which passed a series of radical measures, among them the abolition of feudalism, state control of the Catholic Church and extending the right to vote.

The next three years were dominated by the struggle for political control, exacerbated by economic depression and social unrest. External powers like Austria, Britain and Prussia viewed the Revolution as a threat, leading to the outbreak of the French Revolutionary Wars in April 1792. Disillusionment with Louis XVI led to the establishment of the First French Republic on 22 September 1792, followed by his execution in January 1793. In June, an uprising in Paris replaced the Girondins who dominated the National Assembly with the Committee of Public Safety, headed by Maximilien Robespierre.

This sparked the Reign of Terror, an attempt to eradicate alleged "counter-revolutionaries"; by the time it ended in July 1794, over 16,600 had been executed in Paris and the provinces. As well as external enemies, the Republic faced a series of internal Royalist and Jacobin revolts; in order to deal with these, the French Directory took power in November 1795. Despite military success, the war led to economic stagnation and internal divisions, and in November 1799 the Directory was replaced by the Consulate.

Many Revolutionary symbols such as La Marseillaise and phrases like Liberté, égalité, fraternité reappeared in other revolts, such as the 1917 Russian Revolution.[3] Over the next two centuries, its key principles like equality would inspire campaigns for the abolition of slavery and universal suffrage.[4] Its values and institutions dominate French politics to this day, and many historians regard the Revolution as one of the most important events in recent history.[5]

Be sure to use specific details from the passage in your explanation. In order to get ready for my trip to Paris, I had met with a French woman named Veronique. I had heard she was the best French language tutor in the Los Angeles area, so I had set up appointment to meet her for lessons at her home. As I had entered her house, she told me that she was a native Parisian who had recently moved to the United States and that she desperately missed France. I had told her that I, too, had missed my home. I was born in Sicily, and I had moved to the United States when I was very young. I had always wondered what it would be like if I had stayed in Sicily. Who would my friends be? What college would I have gone to? What if I had stayed in Sicily and had become a scientist or a nurse instead of studying to become a feature filmmaker? There were so many unknowns, and these thoughts always made me resentful. As Veronique showed me around her home, I had noticed that the bathrooms had shelves of powder puffs and perfume bottles displayed like diamonds on mirrored platters. I had looked at myself in the mirror and thought about how my parents had moved me to this country without much of anything. They did not have an education because they had never had those opportunities back then. They had worked hard, every day, for years, and they had saved enough money to put me through college. Here I was, an American citizen studying to be a filmmaker. I had already won an independent film award for a documentary I had made, but I still had so much to learn. Now I was on my way to France to learn the French language. It was my dream to be a filmmaker and to visit France. French film was my favorite genre; the style inspired me, and immersing myself in the French culture was the next logical step in my career. The day I landed in France, I walked around the airport and rolled my luggage past people speaking French. As I attempted to catch a cab, my bag collided with some womans high-heeled shoes, and I accidentally almost tripped her. "Pardon," I quickly said, hoping that she was not hurt. The woman turned to look at me; it was Veronique. "Is that you, Veronique?" I said. "Yes, she replied. "I came for an impromptu visit." "You are the last person I expected to bump into here," I said, amazed. "I am just here for a couple of weeks, and then I'll be going back to L.A.," she said, smiling. I looked over at the taxi stand and said, "Would you like to share a ride?" "Yes," she said,"but we have to speak French now. You wouldn't want all those lessons to go to waste." We laughed and shared a cab toward Paris. Cules de las siguientes caractersticas permite el intercambio gaseoso entre el Oxgeno (O2) y Dixido de carbono (CO2) en los alveolos? There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation. In a paragraph of 6-8 sentences, identify what each text emphasizes and explain how that emphasis supports the claim of each argument.
