Field Trips: Oregon Trail
Field trips are supposed to be educational right? So why don't we have more of
them? The Oregon Trail would be a fascinating experience because of all the history
behind it.
It is a trail that starts in the middle Eastern United States and goes all of the way
to Oregon. People who were on the trail had to be ready to defend themselves at any
given moment. Most of the women walked because their covered wagons were full of
supplies, or someone was lying in it because they were ill.
My great, great, great grandmother was one of the women to travel along the
Oregon Trail. She carried around with her a lever action 22 rifle because she never
knew when it would come in handy.
You see, the Oregon Trail is a part of our history; not just the United States
history, but Oregon's history as well. We should be proud of where we live and thankful
for all of the technology that we have. Honestly, I would hate to walk all day over rocky
and uneven ground, then get up the next day and do it all over again, but the people
were determined to get somewhere where they could start fresh. They were so
determined that they kept on walking day after day into the unknown.
The schools should make field trips possible. Going to historical landmarks and
learning about them and how they were established is something that has always
intrigued me. Everyone should be able to share and experience the same feeling about
history

how do the other indian boys at school react to alexi's talent for read? what causes their reaction towards him? in the. article Sherman Alexie

Answers

Answer:

1. Most of them are spiteful and jealous and do not want him to display his knowledge to the teachers so as not to be seen as unique by them.

2. They have a defeated approach to life and their ability to succeed, so they want Sherman to join in their misery and lack of zeal to excel.

Explanation:

The other Indian boys in the school realized that Sherman was a smart boy and they felt intimidated by him. This is the reason why they wanted him to remain quiet when the non-Indian teachers asked questions that Sherman could because of his exposition to reading.

The other Indian boys accepted the world's view of them as people who were not meant to excel whereas they had the potentials to succeed. Sherman refused to accept such a limited view of the Indian boys for he believed that he had the ability to excel.

Read the excerpt from “The Oval Portrait,” by Edgar Allan Poe.

But it could have been neither the execution of the work, nor the immortal beauty of the countenance, which had so suddenly and so vehemently moved me. Least of all, could it have been that my fancy, shaken from its half slumber, had mistaken the head for that of a living person. I saw at once that the peculiarities of the design, of the vignetting, and of the frame, must have instantly dispelled such idea—must have prevented even its momentary entertainment. What is the effect of parallelism in this excerpt?
A It emphasizes the portrait’s artistry.
B It emphasizes the narrator’s mistakes.
C It emphasizes the portrait’s history.
D It emphasizes the narrator’s denial.

How is the experience of listening to the poem "How Do I Love Thee" being read aloud different from the experience of reading it silently? Hearing the poem read aloud lets listeners better understand how hard the poet worked to make each word count. The flaws and inconsistencies in the poem's rhyme scheme become apparent when it is read aloud. Listening to the sounds of the poem lets the audience unlock its hidden meaning. The sounds and rhythms of the poem are easier to understand when it is read aloud.

Answers

Answer:

I believe the experience of reading the poem aloud is different because:

The sounds and rhythms of the poem are easier to understand when it is read aloud.

Explanation:

"How Do I Love Thee" is a poem by English poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning, of the Romantic Movement. The poem has a beautiful rhyme scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCD. The rhyme scheme is easy to notice when reading the poem silently, however, when we read it aloud, we can better notice its rhythm. The poet used a technique called enjambment, which is the continuation of a sentence across a line break. Take a look at the lines below:

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of being and ideal grace.

See how the first line continues into the second, which continues into the third one? They are all but one long sentence. Reading the poem aloud gives us the chance to notice that the rhythm changes when that happens. Instead of having a break after each line, we go on and on.

Select the correct answer.
