You should check the girth, and tighten it right before mounting. Check that the bridle is on securely, but not too tight. Be sure that the area that you are riding in has all gates closed, and nothing sharp such as sticks, nails, screws, bolts, etc. are sticking out. Be sure that the riding arena also is clear of debris. You may want to move any jumps or other riding equipment out of the way unless you are planning to use it.
